Florida Sun Damage: Protecting Your Paint and Interior From UV

Nature Coast drivers get more UV exposure than almost anyone in the country, and most cars here show it by year five: chalky clear coat on the roof and hood, a dash that feels stiff, and leather seats with fine cracks along the seams.

What the sun does to your paint

Clear coat is the sacrificial layer that protects the color underneath. UV slowly breaks it down, and once it starts to fail it goes cloudy, then it peels. There is no polish that reverses peeling clear coat — at that point it is a repaint. That is the whole argument for protection: it is cheap compared to paint.

A paint sealant (included in our Premium Exterior Wash and Full Detail) gives you 3 to 6 months of UV and contaminant resistance. A ceramic coating gives you years of it and is the right call for a newer vehicle, a boat trailer vehicle, or anything that lives outside.

What it does to your interior

Inside, UV is just as hard on materials. Dashboards and door tops crack because the plastic dries out and loses its plasticizers. Leather does the same — it stiffens, then splits along the stress points on the driver's bolster. Black interiors in Florida can hit 180° on a closed dash.

The fix is protection plus conditioning: a UV-blocking dressing on plastics and vinyl, and real leather cleaning and conditioning on leather surfaces. Both are part of our Interior Detail and Full Detail, not an upsell.

The realistic prevention plan

Realistically: protect the paint every 3 to 4 months with a sealant (or once with a ceramic coating), condition the interior every detail, park in shade when you can, and use a windshield sunshade. That combination is the difference between a five-year-old car that looks new and one that looks tired.
